Essentially what one would refer to as “super-special forces”, the Avengers is a task force dedicated to protecting the earth from meta-human threats. Among other requirements such as passing several exams and a exceptional track record, there is one particularly important requirement to join the Avengers: registration. Registration is essentially unmasking yourself; you reveal your secret identity to SHIELD and it’s logged into their data-banks along with any necessary government allies. While that doesn’t mean that your real identity is going to be slapped all over Facebook’s front page, it isn’t terribly hard to look up the identity of a registered hero if you have the right channels. Likewise, family members and friends of registered heroes receive some of the best protection detail in the world thanks to SHIELD agents. The Avengers are given everything that SHIELD has to offer them to support their super-heroing ways; intelligence info, back-up and all kinds of fancy gadgets and tools to help them out. The Avengers are stationed in the famous “Avengers Mansion”, an illustrious and huge mansion that is protected by a 12 foot adamantium wall and equipped with the latest in security devices from high-yield force fields to remote detonated anti-gravity mines.[/classy] [classy=apphead]AVENGERS ACADEMY[/classy] [classy=blocktext] A school created to recruit meta-human youth SHIELD calculated to be the next greatest threat and attempt to turn them into the next greatest Avenger. The Avengers Academy uses all the state of the art equipment created by SHIELD itself and the teachings of the Avengers, the world’s most skilled heroes, in an attempt to teach these youth on how to better harness their powers and apply it to becoming the next great heroes of our time. Of course, the students would need field experience which is why the Academy also has the academy operate as a type of covert unit as well. While the Avengers are off fighting the huge globe-spanning super-battles, the students of Avengers Academy are sent off to dispatch smaller threats that require a more subtle and sneaky touch. In between missions, students pursue a variety of subjects to help further their super-hero career from “Deep-Space Culture Studies” to “Alternate Reality Traversing” to “Group Combat Training”. While students take certain basic core courses, such as physics and mathematics, they’re encouraged to take classes that would strengthen their particular type of hero-ing. A student with street level powers such as super-senses would be more encouraged to taking a class in “Dismantling Syndicates/Organized Crime Families” as opposed to “Differential Quantum Biophysics”. The Avengers Academy is located in Los Angeles, California in a very expansive compound created through a joint project involving SHIELD and various generous investors. Every part of the compound is created using some of the latest bleeding-edge tech, technology that won’t be made available to the general public for another twenty years. Whether it’s the completely self-sufficient electricity and heating using a zero-point energy core, the hard-light holographic technology installed in every room or the state of the art security system, this expansive campus is perfect for housing the great heroes of tomorrow.[/classy] [classy=apphead]S.H.I.E.L.D.[/classy] [classy=blocktext] The acronym “S.H.I.E.L.D.” stands for “Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate”; whether or not this rather convoluted name was entirely serious or just a joke is still unknown to this day. SHIELD is a super-spy agency devoted to protecting the globe from the type of threats that normal people cannot hold back. While SHIELD is sponsored and supported by the American government, the agency technically answers to no one, operating completely on its own. SHIELD’s funding comes from various sources; the various governments it helps protect and some generous benefactors. For awhile, SHIELD was responsible for keeping the super-hero community in check, seeking to convince the heroes to register with the government in order to maintain some semblance of order in an increasingly chaotic world. It wasn’t until the cataclysmic event that caused the death of most of the meta-human population that SHIELD was able to finally start making orders instead of suggestions. It transformed the Avengers into a SHIELD sponsored super-team and helped fund/create Avengers Academy under the agreement that the Avengers work for them. Agents of SHIELD use a variety of high-tech and advanced weaponry/gadgets from needle guns to phase-shift hollow point rounds to zero-point engine jetpacks.[/classy] [classy=apphead]THE KOLLECTIVE[/classy] [classy=blocktext] A once completely and totally unknown super-villain group, they stood hidden in the shadows waiting until the proper time to take their place on the top of the bad guy ladder. They were the ones responsible for the temporal explosive that eradicated most of the meta-human population. With most of the super-villains and super-heroes out of the game, The Kollective made big moves and big decisions, taking the world by storm. Soon enough, The Kollective was personally responsible for and invested in even the smallest aspect of super-crime in the world. They went from small bad guy club into a global and highly feared terrorist organization. They’re also the creators of the “Young Masters Institute for Higher Destruction” in an attempt to craft the young minds of the meta-human community into the next generation of super-villains. For the most part, The Kollective operate similarly to SHIELD in that they make covert moves and strike at places when no one is looking; causing violent uprising in foreign countries, stealing secret technologies to fuel their own fucked-up machinations or just generally making the world miserable. Their influence stretches across the world and they’re gaining more and more power with each passing day. The Kollective has made their home in Las Vegas, Nevada; they are known for pretty much having a complete and total control of the famous “Sin City”. Their home-base is a massive skyscraper known as “Babel Tower” which is twice the size of the Empire State building.[/classy] [classy=apphead]THE YOUNG MASTERS INSTITUTE FOR HIGHER DESTRUCTION[/classy] [classy=blocktext] An education facility personally created and funded by The Kollective, this institute is responsible for taking in wayward meta-human youth and pushing them onto the path of destruction, thievery and mayhem. Students here learn a variety of criminal skills from “The Art of Efficient Thievery” to “Advanced Assassination Techniques” to “Anti-Matter and How to Weaponize It”. Unlike Avengers Academy, they’re not entirely devoted to covert missions and instead are encouraged to try and forge their own villainous reputations. Go rob a bank, go hold a foreign diplomat hostage for 20 billion dollars or blow half of Australia to hell. They don’t care as long as it’s done skillfully and shows that the students have best understood and utilized the devious concepts taught in class. However, The Kollective does tend to use the students as a direct counter to the Avengers Academy, seeing it as both efficient and the perfect way for them to gain some experience. The Institute is located in an underground campus built under Las Vegas, Nevada named “The Undercity”, despite it not being an actual city; the entire campus was built in less than two months thanks to self-replicating nano-technology. Using the central control-core, the institute can construct buildings in a matter of hours with simple computer commands. The campus can even mimic specific weather conditions in tandem with actual seasons on the upper world. [/classy] |
