The game was so unfamiliar to him, a foreign type of activity that he rarely got to indulge in back in his "Sinister Soldier" days. The Doctor thought it was occasionally good to engage in some recreational activities that didn't involve hanging criminals by their toes. So, once in awhile, they would play a sport or two together and one of the activities he enjoyed most was basketball. The boy had no honest idea why it struck such a particular chord in him compared to everyone else; maybe it was the agility and dexterity needed or that sweet "SWISH" noise of sinking a perfect three-pointer. Point was, Nicholas really enjoyed the sport of basketball and ever since coming to Avengers Academy, he had spent a lot of time on the court honing his skills.
His blue eyes focused on the court intently before he bent his knees and hopped up; one fluid and graceful motion as he jumped into the air and took a shot. The orange ball flew threw the air in one graceful arc before neatly sinking through the net with that beautiful swishing noise that Nicholas enjoyed oh so much. He quickly jogged over to the bouncing ball and scooped it up before seamlessly moving into a lay-away, sinking the ball back in with a gentle finger roll. Good times. The entire thing brought back a flood of nostalgia, memories of a time that seemed so long ago yet still fresh. Times of when his father was still around and they spent something similar to quality time in between breaking people's jaws.
Long and calloused fingers gripped the ball tightly, the resistant material bending slightly under his grip. He didn't like the memories. They felt like baggage that did nothing but remind him of a time he wished was back. Besides, he had new life here right? At the Avengers Academy, they attempted to supplement his lethal skills with more measured techniques, turning him less into an child assassin and more like an actual hero. It was annoying, to say the least. It was much simpler to roast a murderer alive as opposed to arresting him. It was so inefficient in his eyes, but it was the only he could continue being a hero. He had to pay the cost of doing good, apparently.
He raised his hands again and took another shot. Swish. [/blockquote]
