she had cajoled, convinced, pushed, verbally wrestled, guilted her husband to accompany her to place where humans get their adrenaline fix. winifred was a peculiar case of natural curiosities and although she understood some human qualities there were also certain aspects she didn’t quite understand. magic mountain was a watering hole of sorts when it came to humanity’s thirst for excitement and entertainment. some flocked to the rides while others meandered toward the concession stands to consume food (which were bound to be thrown up after enduring one of those frightening rides winnie observed). she craned her head as she followed the feet of strangers, her right hand squeezing david’s as she dragged him through a claustrophobic’s nightmare. despite her love for the avenger near to her, sometimes david proved to be such an exasperation on winifred’s behalf, like the way he so casually declines her cravings for things he usually hates.
while david usually avoided multitudes of people by subjecting himself to a state of isolation, winifred desired to mingle amongst the masses and enjoy the little things her husband often took for granted. with her whirlwind of curiosities and old fashioned pig headedness, winnie wanted to experience what normal people are subjected to as opposed to fighting crime. right now however, she stood behind an elongated line of people waiting for one of those winding, rollercoaster rides. craning her neck around the crook of the line, she counted the number of people and assumed that the wait would be at least an hour maximum. now winifred is a patient creature but david on the other hand? waiting, if not mingling with noisy people, stressed him out like no other.
she scanned up, up at the looming rollercoaster ride as she heard the screams echoing from the speeding cart full of people before down at the ground and back to david’s with a gleeful expression on her face. she saw his lips thinned out in a contempt manner but seriously, she was way too excited to be dampened by his disapproving attitude. hanging onto his arm like some kind of barnacle, she gave him the biggest smile ever. “i’m so glad you agreed to come with me here! honestly, and truly,” winifred remarked with contentment as she stood on her toes to plant a kiss on his cheek. “you need some fresh air and a break from the superhero gig, so please do me a favor and enjoy yourself, okay?” she added, taking a few steps forward as the line dwindled in numbers. what david truly needed was a chill pill to take.

When the words "amusement park" first past Winifred's lips, David wanted to shout about how much of a bad idea it was. Scream, really. However, he was a sucker for sweet words and sweeter eyes, and after a long process of begging without really begging, David's heart melted like chocolate in a child's pocket.
He just had to say yes.
The days leading up to their little trip were like a continuous mental breakdown for David. He became unsettled at every person he saw when he walked down the street. He couldn't help but picture them in the eye of his mind standing in front of him in line at some ridiculous thirty second ride with a two hour waiting period. It was irrational, but perfectly normal to him. He was absolutely sure that Magic Mountain would be the death of him. The night before the trip, he noticed how joyful and excited Winnie was. This only made him more sick to his stomach as he laid in bed beside her, hearing her gentle breath as she slept in hopes to wake up sooner. The soft pillows did not lure him to sleep. His muscles were tight as ever. What brought his wife bliss brought him terror.
You often hear that people make things worse than they really are. David supposed this was true. It had as much logical basis as anything else that someone random said. The ride to Magic Mountain was quite pleasant, actually. They listened to music that David liked, and he couldn't help but wonder if it was because Winifred was attempting to soothe him in some way. It made him feel like a child, and his cheeks burned when his favorite song came on and the realization sunk in, but after awhile a sense of gratefulness overcame him. There's always those moments when you know you've married the right person.
Winnie grabbed his hand as soon as he shuffled out of the car. The discomfort in his stomach plus the tingles that his wife's touch left on his skin made him feel ill and conflicted. He was herded like a prized cow into a very long line. He could see over the heads of the people in front of him, no doubt a benefit of being rather tall. David's dark hair soaked up the hot sun's rays, and standing in line soon became like wandering a desert. The longer they stood, the more he spaced out. The more he spaced out, the more uncomfortable he felt.
Her voice tugged him back, as always. He stared back down at her, his eyes darting all over his face like he was trying to memorize it, like he would never see it again. "Yeah," David responded, and mentally kicked himself for how awkward he sounded. "I mean... Yes, fresh air is supposed to be good for people," he rephrased, sounding a bit sure of himself.
He affectionately squeezed Winnie's hand when her warm lips touched his cheek. David's thumb rubbed over one of her knuckles, and he did so with confidence. Sometimes it bothered him that his eyes and his actions seemed more convincing than his words. Mostly he just learned to live with it.
The screams echoing from the roller coaster obviously freaked out the young teenage couple in front of them, because they darted around David to escape from the confines of the line. Not wavered, he took a few steps forward to fill the gap. "I like that you're not scared," he randomly admitted, glancing down at Winifred but then promptly feeling incredibly embarrassed by his outburst. The rims of his ears went red and David diverted his gaze forward. "I-I just mean... You're brave." That didn't quite seem to soothe him though, as he let out an exasperated sigh and rolled his eyes, frustrated. "Not that I didn't think you would be! I just..."
He looked back down at her seriously. David let out a laugh that sounded a little self-deprecating. "I mean that I like the way you like to do new things."
